Mini review: Brewista Aroma Cup

Brewista Aroma Cup; 300ml version.

I already have several cups and mugs for drinking coffee, but this aroma cup from Brewista is my new personal favorite for drinking coffee at home.

The requirements

I was looking for:

  • A glass cup, because I enjoy seeing the coffee inside. It just looks nicer in my opinion, compared to porcelain or ceramic.
  • A double-walled cup on the “bowl” section, and single-walled on the rim section. Double-wall that goes right to the rim is just too thick for me.
  • Good capacity for my daily brew. This one is 300ml. More on this below.
  • Designed for swirling the coffee. Not a hard requirement, but it’d be really nice to have.

The cup

In my opinion, it looks great. One of the nicer glassware I’ve ever had.

The glass is quite thick, including the rim section. So if you’re after a glass with thin rim, this might not be the one for you. It’s still a lot thinner compared to cups where the double-wall section goes right to the rim, though.

Because of the thickness, it allows the cup to look good, but doesn’t feel fragile. It has a bit of heft too at almost 225g.

Brewing into the cup

It fits the Brewista Next Wave Duo perfectly. They look quite beautiful when paired together.

Fits perfectly, could’ve been sold as a set 🙂

You should be able to use most other pourover brewers to brew right into the cup. One exception I found is the Hario Switch. The silicon holder won’t fit into the cup.

Might look doable, but I wouldn’t risk it.

I normally brew 12:200, which results in roughly 180-ish grams of brewed coffee. It fills the cup nicely right until the border between double-wall and single-wall. If you brew 15:250, it’ll exceed the border a bit.

Drinking from the cup

The diamond shape helps when holding the cup. It provides better hold by allowing you to place your fingers on the lower part of the diamond shape.

After brewing coffee into the cup, the outer wall does get warm, but it doesn’t get too hot to hold comfortably. It feels nice actually to still be able to feel the warmth of the coffee, compared to thermal insulated mugs like the Fellow Carter.

The inner shape of the cup, with the rim smaller than the bowl, helps a lot when you swirl the coffee to release some aroma. The shape also helps in focusing the aroma to your nose.

The overall drinking experience is really enjoyable.

I might still be looking for a similar cup but with thinner rim profile, though 😀

Handwashing the cup

It’s glass, so it does get really slippery when washing the cup. The diamond shape helps a little in providing slightly better grip.

The opening of the glass is rather small, you most likely won’t be able to fit your hand when washing the inner section. Better to use a brush.

TL;DR

I really like this Brewista Aroma Cup. I believe the material, the shape, the design, do help in maximising the coffee drinking experience (at least for me). It’s a worthy addition to any coffee drinkware collection, especially if you don’t already have a cup of this type yet 🙂

Update: 2023-11-27

I bought a second cup of this Brewista Aroma Cup. To my surprise, the new cup is lighter and thinner. The weight is ~25g less than the previous one I bought. It feels more fragile in comparison.

I guess the tolerance in production can be pretty huge for this cup.
