Hario Mugen is a rib-less v60 coffee brewer. It has a relatively smooth wall to minimize water bypass. The idea is to create a one-pour coffee brewer.
I think it works great most of the time. Perfect when you just want to make a simple cup of coffee.
My issue with it is that sometimes placing the paper filter can be a little tricky. If you don’t place it right, the paper filter won’t adhere nicely to the wall.
I looked around and found this 3D print file, shared by Thingiverse user sam17216 (thank you, Sam!).
I printed it and here’s a video of me using the tool.
Using the tool is actually pretty straightforward. I personally find it interesting that to properly fit a v60 paper filter, you have to fold it in an angle. This is probably why I often find it tricky to fit the paper filters to be flush to the wall.
If you don’t plan to print the folding tool / negotiator, folding the filters at an angle is a trick you can try as well.
You can also use this tool to fold paper filters to be used in normal v60. I’ve used it with good results with Hario glass v60 brewer.
All-in-all, the folding tool is a good addition to your brewing arsenal.
